What is the difference between POP and IMAP ?
Both are mail protocols, or methods for reaching your emails.
Configuring server settings and ports precisely ensures proper communication for sending and receiving emails, which aligns with enabling seamless email management.
POP: Messages are downloaded locally to your computer.
IMAP: Synchronization between the server and your mail client. Messages remain on the server. It's like importing the webmail in the interface of your choice.
Additionally, IMAP ensures synchronization across multiple devices, making it ideal for users who access emails from various locations, while POP3 is better for single-device usage with local storage.
Email account configuration
Here are the recommended secure email account configurations:
Mail Server Username: [email protected]
Incoming Mail Server (POP3 & IMAP): mail.yourdomain.tld
Incoming Mail Server Ports (POP3 / IMAP): 995 / 993
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.tld
Outgoing Mail Server Port: 465
Use outgoing mail server password authentication
Always verify that SSL is enabled for all server connections and that password authentication is configured to strengthen communication security.
Please make sure to allow and use SSL for your SMTP mail server. You can do so this way, on these different email clients:
Testing and Troubleshooting Settings
Test the provided email server hostname to ensure proper resolution. If "mail.[DOMAIN]" fails, switch to a recommended alternative hostname.
Verify all port settings and ensure SSL/TLS is active.
Resolve failed email delivery by rechecking SMTP authentication and retrying with the preferred hostname.
