Modifying Mailbox Quota

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Sometimes it is necessary to change the quota for one of your email accounts, either because it has reached the limit and the account can no longer receive emails, or because you simply need to increase it. Monitoring your storage usage regularly can prevent disruptions, ensuring that your email account functions smoothly without reaching capacity unexpectedly.

Prerequisites

  • Access to cPanel

Task completion: 5 minutes (max)

Expertise: beginner

How to do it?

  1. Log in to your cPanel

  2. Select “Email Accounts”, under the Email group

  3. Click on the “Manage” button for the email address for which you wish to modify the quota

  4. Under the Storage section, change the quota in the Allocated Storage Space box

  5. Click on the “Update Email Settings“ button

Understanding Email Storage Policies

  • Unrestricted Email Space Quotas: While individual accounts may show an "unrestricted" quota, this refers to the flexibility of storage within your hosting account's overall limit.

  • cPanel Account Limits: Your total email storage is ultimately governed by the disk space available under your plan.

Upgrading Email Storage Options

If you need more storage for your email account, consider moving to VPS hosting.

A Virtual Private Server provides scalable storage starting from 20GB, which can be expanded according to your requirements.

Shortcuts

cPanel > Email >> Email Accounts

Recommendations for Maintaining Email Storage

  • Regularly delete unnecessary emails to free up space.

  • Set up automated archiving to relocate older emails.

  • Periodically monitor your storage through the cPanel interface to prevent reaching capacity.
