Activate TLS 1.1 and 1.2 in Windows 7

The TLS v1.0 protocol has been disabled from our infrastructure for security reasons. This necessary change may impact the use of your mail clients.

Indeed, many older versions of operating systems (macOS, Windows ...) and email clients (Outlook, Mail, Thunderbird ...) do not support TLS 1.1 and 1.2.

On Windows 7 and Windows 8, applications based on WinHTTP (Windows HTTP Services), such as Outlook, Word, etc., only support TLS 1.0. Therefore, if you try to establish a secure connection between your Outlook and a Funio server, Outlook will display an error message: "Your server does not support the encryption type you specified".

Prerequisites

  • Understanding of TLS 1.1 and 1.2 protocol

  • Windows 7 or 8

  • Knowledge of the Windows Update tool

  • Outlook

Task completion: 30 minutes (max)

Expertise: advanced

How to activate it?

To resolve this issue and allow your Outlook to communicate securely with the server using TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2, you need to do the following:

  1. Install Windows Update KB3140245, through Windows Update where it is available as an optional update, or download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

  2. Download the MicrosoftEasyFix51044.msi file from this link KB3140245, and install it on your computer:

The file is available for download in the section titled Easy fix on the page mentioned above. If the Easy fix option is not right for you and you prefer to manually edit your computer registry, the article also provides this information in the "How the DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry works" section.
